The former railroad and restaurant will be lit for the city's Sesquicentennial
Celebration from June 27 - July 5.
About a dozen volunteers took a few hours out of their day today to clear brush in and around Lockport's Union Station.

The work force — put together by Ellen Martin — made the ruins of the former train station and restaurant much more visible. Soon the station will be lit as part of the city's Sesquicentennial Celebration from June 27 - July 5.

"The idea idea is to celebrate it as a ruin instead of bemoaning the fact that it burned down 40-plus years ago," Martin said. "If you've seen ruins lit up before, it's just very cool looking."

The lights will be delivered soon and the electrcitiy will be turned on just for the nine days when the station will be lit from 9 p.m. until midnight daily.

The site will be viewable from outside the fence, but inside the fence will still not be open to the public.

Martin explains more in the YouTube video below, including her other ideas for the city's birthday celebration.
