Born nearly four months early, David James Horton is fighting for his life at Women and Children's Hospital.
"He's hanging in there," his mother said this afternoon. "He's fighting."
He was given a fighting chance from the moment he arrived, thanks in large part to local first responders, which closed off roads and led David's ambulance to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport late Tuesday night — and then to Women and Children's Hospital early Wednesday morning. Pitching in to assure a speedy transit were Lockport Police Department, Niagara County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and South Lockport Fire Co.
David is the second child for Felicia Horton. She also has an 11-month-old by the name of Twyla.
Felicia will spend the next several weeks going back and forth from Lockport to Buffalo, taking care of Twyla here and visiting Buffalo while Women and Children's Hospital takes care of David there. "They wanted to keep me in Lockport (hospital) ... but I signed myself out to spend time with my baby.
Felicia asks the public only for prayers — but notes that the expense of travel will be overwhelming. She said she heard someone was creating a GoFundMe drive for her and David, but wasn't sure of the details or if it'd actually been done yet.
