ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
John Lombardi announced this morning that he is withdrawing from the race for city treasurer.
The long-time alderman said his interests would be best served by focusing on a new business venture involving his wife — and his family business, Lockport Overhead Door.
Lombardi was to run a primary campaign against incumbent City Treasurer Mike White on the Republican line. Sue A. Mawhiney is also a candidate for the office, running as a Democrat.
Lombardi's announcement of his withdrawal follows in its entirety.
I regretfully announce my withdrawal from the race of City of Lockport Treasurer immediately. After serious consideration, and lengthy discussions with my family and friends, it would be in my best interest to spend my time and efforts on a new business venture involving my wife and business partner in the city, as well as the family business I have been involved in for over 30 years. I know exactly what is needed to bring a victory in a citywide race, and can not dedicate the time or money necessary to assure that would happen. I appreciate all the help and guidance that many supporters have shown me. I have spent over a decade working for the community that I love, and appreciate the opportunities that have been presented to me, and the knowledge I have gained from it. I will continue to support all positive action as the City of Lockport moves forward.
