ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch beginning at 10 p.m. for parts of western and central New York, including all of Niagara County.
"Showers and thunderstorms will be moving through the region overnight into early Tuesday," according to the weather service. "Recent significant rainfall has resulted in many areas with saturated ground and streams running high. Any thunderstorm overnight into early Tuesday will have the potential to produce very heavy rainfall in a short period of time. This may lead to flash flooding."
While the watch was issued for Niagara County, the weather service notes that the greatest risk of flash flooding will be in the Finger Lakes region, Genesee Valley and the Southern Tier.
A flash flood watch means that the threat of flash flooding exists, especially along rivers and creeks. Those who live in areas prone to flash flooding should be ready to react if necessary.
