ENP STAFF REPORTS

The popular adage is that "you can't fight City Hall," but East Niagara Post co-publishers Heather Grimmer and Scott Leffler hope to prove that adage wrong.

The heads of the online news organization challenged Mayor Anne McCaffrey and the Common Council to a kickball game as part of the city's 150th birthday celebration. McCaffrey accepted the challenge today on behalf of the Council and other city employees.

The game will be played at 7 p.m. July 1 at Outwater Park, featuring ENP's co-publishers and contributors — and maybe a couple ringers — against city officials and employees. Each team is to have 12 members to allow for rest periods for some of the (older) players. Team City Hall may be particularly tired after a tug-of-war against the Town of Lockport on June 30 and a Common Council meeting earlier in the evening of July 1.

While the primary purpose of the game is to have fun, ENP is hoping that it can also raise money and food for charity. Team ENP will make a $125 donation to Saint John's Food Pantry and issued a challenge to Team City Hall to make a similar contribution to a local charity of their choice. Also, the game will be free to watch but spectators are encouraged to bring a jar of peanut butter, jelly or fluff as a donation to the PB&J drive.

Further details, including team line-ups, will be announced at a later time.
