LEWISTON — Niagara County Sheriffs deputies are searching for two suspects of a reported shooting on Route 31 near Walmore Road.

Police say two victims have been extricated from the scene of the shooting, one of whom was shot in the leg during a robbery at Smokin' Joe's. He was taken to ECMC for treatment of what is described as a non-life threatening injury.

Police are actively searching for a pair of men - one with a rifle - near Smoking Joe's on Route 31. The suspects fled on foot into a wooded area north of Route 31. A pair of police helicopters are helping to search the area.

The gunman is described as a 310-pound male approximately 5-feet, 9-inches tall with reddish brown hair. He is wearing beige shorts, a red t-shirt and black sneakers. The other suspect is described as 5-foot, 6-inches tall with a thin build, wearing a camouflage hoodie and dark pants.

Saunders Settlement Road northbound and southbound traffic has been closed between Buffalo Street and Walmore Road. Also closed is Upper Mountain Road between Printup Road and Susies Lane; and Walmore Road north of Saunders Settlement. Local area businesses were on lockdown, as was Niagara Wheatfied Junior and Senior High Schools. The lockdown has been lifted but area residents are warned to stay in their homes with the doors locked.
