TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Niagara Hospice invites ommunity members interested in experiences that make a positive impact on the lives of others, as well as their own, to the next hospice volunteer training to be held from 1-4 p.m. April 28 and 29.

Niagara Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Allison Bolt said the organization is holding spring training for new volunteers who want to join their exceptional team. “Volunteers provide much-needed companionship and support for our Niagara Hospice patients by visiting them in their home, or in the nursing home or assisted living facility. Volunteer activities include conversation and reminiscing; putting together puzzles or playing games; running errands for the family; or simply just holding a hand and listening. This is the essence of hospice care and all you need is a caring heart and a passion for helping others.”

Volunteer positions include patient-related and non-patient related jobs. Visits take place in the patient’s or caregiver’s home, at Niagara Hospice House, and at area long term care facilities where hospice patients reside. Non-patient related opportunities include helping with community outreach, clerical tasks and fundraising efforts of Niagara Hospice. T

he agency’s most immediate volunteer needs are in the areas of making home visits to patients in the Lockport, Newfane and Niagara Falls areas; visiting residents at Rebekah’s Pathway at OddFellows, at Hospice at Jeanne’s House at Northgate, and at David’s Path at Schoellkopf. Bolt also said more certified pet visit volunteers are needed, and that information on how to get your well-trained pet certified will be provided at the training.

The volunteer training will be held at the administrative building on the Niagara Hospice campus at 4675 Sunset Drive in Lockport. Anyone interested can contact the volunteer office at 280-0748 for an application and to register. More information and volunteer applications are also available at www.NiagaraHospice.org.
