ROYALTON — A 24-year-old Middleport man was charged with DWI and other crimes early Sunday morning after allegedly hitting a utility pole on Rochester Road.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Kleitz, 9747 Watson Ave., struck a National Grid utility pole at approximately 2:38 a.m., then fled the scenek eastbound on Rochester Road, where NCSO patrol caught up with him.
The report states that Kleitz ignored the patrol car’s lights and sirens at first, then pulled over, where he was interviewed by Sheriff’s deputies, who determined him to be intoxicated and found an open container of alcohol on the floor of the vehicle.
Kleitz was found to have a .24 percent blood alcohol content and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle, and moving from the lane unsafely.
He was held in Niagara County Jail on $250 bail. He was also held on an active arrest warrant out of the Town of Lockport. Stymie's Towing secured the vehicle with a 12-hour hold. And National Grid responded to the scene to repair damage to the utility pole. Kleitz is due in Royalton Court on Thursday.

WOW! With all those charges they should have gave no bail and kept him in jail until Judgement Day!
