TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started for the Crosby Road family that lost their home to a fire last Sunday night.

The fundraiser, started by the homeowners' niece, is "to help regain some of the belongings, clothing, and any other necessities," according to the GoFundMe page. As of 3:03 p.m., it had raised $260 of a projected $5,000.

In addition to cash donations, the family is looking for clothing in the following sizes:

  • Women's shirt sizes 1x - 2x
  • Women's pants 12-13
  • Women's shoes 9-9.5
  • Men's shirts 2x
  • Men's pants 1x
  • Men's shoes 11
  • Kids shirt large & small
  • Kids pants 14 & 6
  • Men shoes 10.5
  • Baby boy clothes Size 3-6 months

New York State Trooper Peter Morrissey first noticed the fire shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday when he spotted an orange glow coming from the back of the home at 6030 Crosby Road and took quick action in notifying the occupants that the house was on fire.

He assisted two adults and a child out of the house safely and contacted Niagara County Dispatch via 911. He attempted to re-enter the house to save the family pets but the effort was thwarted due to overwhelming smoke. At first one of the family's dogs was unaccounted for but it has since been found safe.

Preliminary investigation shows the fire started in the exterior rear of the house, the origin of the fire is still under investigation. The house has been determined a total loss.

The homeowners are staying with family.
