ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
WOLCOTTSVILLE — Niagara County Sheriff's deputies and Wolcottsville Fire Department personnel responded to the 9100 block of Akron Road tonight due to a collapsed barn.
According to the NCSO report, the 100-year-old barn "collapsed under the weight of a large amount of snow and ice on the roof." The collapse occurred around 8:30 p.m.
The barn, which the owner had not entered in four or five years, was valued at $10,000, including the contents.
The Wolcottsville Fire Department responded to clear the debris from the roadway. National Grid responded to remove a power line between the residence and the collapsed barn. No one was injured in the collapse.
The Akron Road structure was not alone in its snowy demise. A $20,000 pavilion at the Bergholz Fire Co. in Wheatfield collapsed due to the heavy mix of rain and snow tonight. There was no one in or around the Pavilion when it collapsed around 9:08 p.m. The Pavilion did not cause any other damage to surrounding structures.
