HARTLAND — New York State Police charged 61-year-old Stephen J. Novak III of Barker with driving while intoxicated Monday.
According to the arrest report, Troopers responded to a call of a car in a snow bank on Hartland Road. Novak told patrol that he lost control of the vehicle due to his dog, who was still in the vehicle. However, he showed signs of intoxication and an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Standardized field sobriety tests were performed, which he failed. Novak was then arrested for DWI.
Novak’s dog was removed from the vehicle by the Town of Lockport Dog Warden and taken to the Niagara County SPCA for safe keeping. Novak was then transported to SP Lockport for processing with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent. Novak was issued tickets for DWI, speeding, consumption of alcoholic beverage in motor vehicle, and moving from lane unsafely.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hartland Court on March 17.
