TOWN OF LOCKPORT — The new Walmart's seemingly perfect record for catching thieves is broken — at least temporarily — as a white male made off with a pair of $200 headphones on Friday.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office report, Walmart's security director reported the theft around 6 p.m. Friday after seeing the male take a pair of "Beats by Dre" wireless headphones from the store without paying for them.

Walmart personnel, however, gave NCSO a possible name of the suspect and a license plate number of the vehicle he left in, which was driven by another person.

The security director told patrol that after reviewing video recordings, the suspect was observed selecting the headphones and placing them in his shopping cart, then placing a white sticker on the box of the headphones. before bringing them up to the self-checkout line and scanning them. However, the $199.95 headphones scanned as though they were an adaptor valued at $1.97. The suspect then left the store with the headphones.

The security director told patrol that she had received a warning from a local Home Depot concerning the assumed suspect and his changing the bar code stickers on merchandise. Patrol was able to locate the suspect's address through a license check but does not believe this to be a current address. Patrol will attempt to follow up with this case and will be seeking assistance from the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
