ROYALTON ― A Wolcottsville Road woman was scammed out of $395 recently by someone claiming to be able to "fix" her computer remotely.
The woman told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies on Thursday that the scam happened Jan. 21 when someone claiming to be from Microsoft contacted her to do service on her computer. After numerous exchanges, the woman agreed and gave the unknown person her credit card information for payment.
The unknown suspect then charged $395 to her credit card. The woman has since canceled the card but she was unable to provide NCSO with any further information regarding the suspect.
