BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres came out strong against the New York Rangers, scoring just 14 seconds into the game. Then they faltered.
The first-period goal was a Matt Moulson tip-in from Torrey Mitchell. Brian Gionta also assisted on the play. Carl Hagelin tied it for the Rangers at 5:51. The backhand shot goal was assisted by J.T. Miller and Dan Boyle.
Rick Nash made it 2-1 New York 37 seconds into the second period. Derick Brassard and Marc Staal assisted. Then at 8:05, Mats Zuccarello snapped a wrist shot past Sabres goaltender Michal Neuvirth, assisted by Nash and Brassard. New York's third goal was the final goal of the game.

NOTES:
- Moulson's goal was the fastest Sabres goal to start a game since Nov. 19, 2013 when Tyler Ennis scored just 10 seconds in. It was his 150th goal and 300th career point.
- Zach Bogosian led the Sabres in ice time for the fourth consecutive game with a TOI of 26:05. He has averaged 28:08 in his four games with Buffalo, logging seven shots, 24 hits and 13 blocked shots.
- Mike Weber left tonight's game with an upper-body injury after the first period.
- The Sabres next play Sunday when the Nashville Predators visit at 6 p.m.
