Coming into tonight's game at Cornerstone CFCU Arena, the Jersey Shore Wildcats had dropped only one game this season. The Lockport Express was hoping to hand them another one but Jersey Shore had different plans.
At the end of 60 entertaining minutes of hockey, Jersey Shore got their way, beating the Express 3-1 in front of an arena nearly full of hometown fans.
Jersey Shore's Ilya Spektor opened the scoring at 11:22 of the first period, assisted by Alexander Tan and Antoine Gagne.
Lockport tied the game at 3:02 of the second on a goal by Mark Friol, assisted by Justin Blake and Dillon Hayes. The lead didn't last long, however, as Travis Valvo put the Wildcats back on top with a goal at 6:48 of the same period. Tan and Frederic Ampleman assisted on the goal.
In a penalty-filled third period, Alexandre Racicot made it 3-1 Wildcats with an even strength goal just 1:18 into the priod. Ilya Spektor and Austin Crane assisted. The period started with fisticuffs as Lockport's Jeff Avolio and Jersy Shore's William Villeneuve went at it as the puck dropped to start the period. The roughhousing set the tone for the remainder of the period, which saw 51 minutes in penalties between the two teams. The first two period combined saw only 18 minutes in penalties.
The Express will try again Saturday to defeat the nearly-undefeated Wildcats when the two teams face off at 7 p.m., again at Cornerstone Arena. The same two teams will also face off again Sunday afternoon.
