TOWN OF LOCKPORT ― Niagara County Sheriff's officials were called to a Niagara County home Monday evening to help South Lockport Fire Co. EMTs with an odd request.

An ambulance had been called to take the resident of the home to the hospital and EMTs said they weren't comfortable simply leaving the home given what they found — piles and piles of cash.

Deputy Paul Harrer walked around the residence and observed large sums of money scattered around in several rooms of the residence. Sgt. Aaron Schultz also arrived on scene, walked around the residence then called for NCSO I.D. to respond to the scene. Deputy Anthony Giamberdino then responded to the scene and photographed the different rooms inside of the residence and the several money locations.

After the cash was photographed, the three men then walked around the residence and collected all of the money that was in plain view, placing it into two brown paper evidence bags, which were then transported to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, where the money was sorted and counted on briefing room tables.

The two brown paper evidence bags contained:

  • 42 - $100 bills
  • 52 - $50 bills
  • 73 - $20 bills
  • 75 - $10 bills
  • 50 - $5 bills
  • 7,823 - $1 bills.

The grand total of the money collected was $17,083.00.

Deputy Giamberdino photographed all the money that was laid out on the briefing room tables and placed each denomination into separate money evidence envelopes and labeled. The cash was then stored in the evidence room and a deputy was sent to the hospital to give the owner a property receipt.
