Lockport police charged a father and son from West Seneca with the same crime Sunday — for separate incidents.

According to LPD reports, John M. Murphy, 25, 145 Pinewood Dr., West Seneca, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after patrol were called to assist a Lockport woman with retrieving her items from a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Tim Hortons, 4 South Transit St.

When police arrived, they found that Murphy’s license had been revoked and he is required to have an interlock device in his vehicle. The vehicle he was driving did not. They also found him in possession of marijuana. He was charged with unlawful possession and “use of other vehicles,” in addition to the AUO.

Police allowed the owner of the vehicle to pick it up from the Tim Horton’s lot. And gave Murphy a ticket to appear in City Court on Monday.

About three hours later, police charged 56-year-old Timothy P. Murphy, of the same West Seneca address, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, having an unregistered motor vehicle, and driving without insurance.

According to the senior Murphy’s arrest, he came to pick up his son’s vehicle and was found to not have a valid license either. Patrol warned him not to drive the vehicle and he said he wouldn’t. He was going to have his wife drive it.

Patrol watched as Mrs. Murphy got into the vehicle and Timothy Murphy got into another. Timothy Murphy was stopped when patrol saw him driving out of the Tim Horton’s parking lot. He was also due in City Court on Monday.
