TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 29-year-old Appleton man was charged with driving while intoxicated and other crimes after striking a telephone pole on Harrington Road, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
Jeremy M. Shanks, 7482 Lake Road, Appleton, was traveling northbound on Harrington Road when his car began to slide, striking the utility pole on the north side of Slayton Settlement Road, according to the NCSO report.
While speaking with Shanks, patrol determined him to be intoxicated, however he refused to take a roadside breath test.
He was taken to Niagara County Jail and held on $250 bail. His car was towed and held for 12 hours and he is slated to appear in Town of Lockport Court on Feb. 19 to answer to the DWI charge, as well as aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to stop at a stop sign, refusal to take a breath test, and speeding.
