NEWFANE — A 63-year-old Olcott woman was charged with driving while intoxicated Tuesday afternoon on Godfrey Road.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Mary Beth Verheyn, 1562 Franklin St., Olcott, had been seen by an employee at Tops stumbling inside the store and in the parking lot before getting into her vehicle and leaving. The Tops employee called NCSO, who then found the woman and followed her, executing a traffic stop.

Verheyn was determined to be intoxicated by patrol after a series of failed sobriety tests. She was then found to have a blood alcohol content of .24 percent — three times the legal limit.

She was remanded to Niagara County Jail on $250 bail and ordered to appear in Newfane Town Court on Tuesday to answer to the charges of aggravated DWI, DWI, failure to use designated lane, following too closely and moving from the lane unsafely.
