ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
NEWFANE — Thieves made off with a $6,000 forklift from a Wilson-Burt Road storage facility.
According to a report filed by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, the 2005 Komatsu forklift was taken between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. Patrol determined that the east door of the facility had been pried open and the lock was damaged to gain entry.
"Patrol observed the fork lift tracks in the fresh snow exiting the cold storage and ending in the driveway," the report said.
The owner of the forklift told patrol that due to the weight of the machine a heavy duty trailer would be needed to transport the fork lift. Patrol checked the area for fork lift tracks in the fresh snow. It appeared the machine was removed from the garage and immediately loaded onto a trailer.
The investigation was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Pictures of the fork lift were to be passed along to other patrol shifts to be observant for the machine.
