ROYALTON — A 41-year-old Gasport woman was charged Wednesday with DWI after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident on Chestnut Ridge Road.
Christine L. Burdette, 5707 Ward Road, had crashed her car into a ditch, badly damaging it before fleeing the scene on foot around 10:25 a.m., according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
"Patrol and fire personnel checked with witnesses who stated that a 'blonde female' had crashed the vehicle then gotten into another vehicle with "a bunch of kids in it" and headed eastbound," the report said. Patrol checked the listed registration which came back to Burdette, then called her. She answered the phone and said that she was unhurt and on her way back to the scene.
When she arrived back on the scene, patrol determined her to be intoxicated. She told patrol she had drank "beer vodka" earlier in the morning. She was found to have a .14 percent blood alcohol content and charged with DWI. She was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, speeding and refusing a breath test.
She was then taken to the Niagara County Jail where her bail was set at $250. She was also ordered to appear in Town of Royalton Court this evening.
