NEWFANE — A Wallace Avenue man had his car stolen from his driveway Friday but Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were quick to retrieve it.

The complainant told patrol around 4:37 p.m. Friday that someone had taken the vehicle between midnight and when he reported it stolen. He said the keys may have been in it and that he thought he heard someone start it around midnight but thought nothing of it at the time.

The man told patrol that there was a set of golf clubs in the trunk, worth about $1,100, slightly more than the value of the car itself, which he listed at $1,000.

Patrol told the man to be sure to lock all vehicles and not to leave the keys in them, then entered the vehicle as stolen and notified the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

A short time later, patrol was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle call on Murphy Road in Newfane. The caller had told dispatch that the car had been parked there unoccupied since approximately 5:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, patrol confirmed that the vehicle parked on Murphy Road was the vehicle stolen from the complainant. The vehicle did not appear to be damaged, however, the radio had been removed as well as the golf clubs from the trunk.

Patrol made contact with the complainant and advised him that the vehicle had been recovered, and that it would be processed, and after processing, he could pick it up — which he did.

Investigation is continuing pending results from CSI processing the vehicle.
