On behalf of the entire Lockport Express Junior A Hockey Program, I want to sincerely wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all the best in the coming year. The Lockport community has helped make the first half of our inaugural season a resounding success. The players are really enjoying playing in front of our home town fans and although the attendance has been excellent, we can always use more fans cheering us on. So, please keep the momentum going. As stated in a previous article, please submit any game day activities you’d like to see directly to me and we will see what we can do to make it happen.

As you have seen in this publication in the last few days, we will be hosting a league-wide Show Case January 16th-18th. All 10 teams in our league will be in town for this event so if you are looking for a full weekend of high end hockey, please come out and see some of the teams in our league you normally would not get to see, as well as attending our games and supporting the Express’ push to the playoffs. We expect several college coaches and scouts, as well as representatives from the NA3EHL and the North American Hockey League (NAHL) to be in attendance for this event.

As the rink gets closer to completion, our Express program will be opening and operating the Pro Shop and we will be stocking that over the next few weeks with hockey products, skate sharpening and several different types of apparel. Please stop in and see us. The Express will also have some exciting announcements in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that as well.

It is always good to reflect this time of year and be thankful for many thing ... family, friends, good health and many other wonderful things. Thank you to the Lockport community for supporting our food drive and providing meals during this holiday season to those less fortunate. We delivered the food to Sister Helen’s Food Pantry on Chestnut Street and again, thank you for supporting this and thinking of others.

As there are too many to mention in one article, we simply say thank you to the Lockport community and all those who have supported us to date, including our loyal sponsors, rink staff, Lockport Ice Arena Board and many, many others.  Let’s continue to work together to rebuild Lockport.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and the best health and success in the coming year!

Thank you,

Frank J Vecchio is the head coach and general manager of the Lockport Express Junior A hockey team. He can be reached at fvecchioexpress@gmail.com.
