ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
An arbitration request from the city fire department's union on the issue if minimum manning will go through, despite an attempt by the City to have the request denied.
A decision by Supreme Court Justice Frank Caruso states that the arbitration should go forward because the issue is one of "staffing levels" rather than "employment levels," which would be exempt from arbitration.
An email from the Local 963 says "the Lockport Professional Firefighters hope that this decision will encourage the current administration to come to the bargaining table and negotiate a settlement or at the very least proceed to arbitration as quickly as possible to obtain a final decision. This will save the taxpayers both time and money."
The decision in its entirety can be read here.
