ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
Held in Charlotte-Concord, South Carolina October 28th - 30th, the competition reviewed over 500 wines and spirits all of which were judged blind and by panel consensus.
Four wines from three Niagara Wine Trail wineries were honored with prestigious Double Gold awards. Black Willow Winery's Odin's Nectar, a traditional honey mead and Valkyrie's Lure, a traditional mead with pear and cinnamon; Leonard Oakes Estate Winery's 2011 Vidal Blanc Ice Wine; and The Winery at Marjim Manor's Treasure Beyond Measure, a sweet plum fruit wine, all received the Double Gold accolade. The Winery at Marjim Manor also brought home a Gold medal for their Pear Made in Heaven fruit wine — and received six awards in all.
Also awarded at the event were eight Silver medals - Black Willow Winery Trilogy Red; Leonard Oakes Estate Winery 2012 Traminette, 2012 Reserve Riesling, 2013 Blanc d'Orleans and Steampunk Cider; The Winery at Marjim Manor Applegria, Slice of Heaven, and Once Upon A Time (sparking apple wine).
Five Bronze awards were also granted to Black Willow Winery 2013 De Peche Meow, Chardonnay, and Riesling; Leonard Oakes Estate Winery 2012 Pinot Noir; and The Winery at Marjim Manor Jewel in the Crown.
A full list of honored wines at the 2014 American Wine Society Competition can be found on their website.
