The DeSales Knights swim team finished a successful season with a great showing at the Neumann Catholic Swim League Championships at the UB Athletic Complex Aquatic Center.

Attending the Nov. 9 meet were 20 teams and hundreds of swimmers representing their schools one last time in the pool. The Knights had time improvements across the three age divisions and numerous top 10 finishes. The following are the top 10 finishes in each respective age group as individuals as well as members of relays for DeSales.

Jack Strong was the lone top 10 finisher for the Knights in the 8-and-under division. Strong finished in fourth place in the 25 freestyle to end his tenure as a member of the 8-and-under division as next year he competes in the 9-10-year-old division.

The 9-10 division continued to dominate as it has all season long for the Knights. The Knights had four relays finish in the top 10 in both the 200 Medley Relay as well as the 200 Free Relay. Finishing in second for the Medley were Gracie Cordle, Madison Fragale, Aidan Morgan, and Grace Buzak. Finishing in seventh were Elizabeth Kershaw, Henry Murphy, William Rahill and Evan Chesko. The Free Relay had a repeat performance for second place with Fragale, Cordle, Buzak, and Morgan. Finishing in sixth place as a relay were Evan Chesko, Murphy, Elizabeth Swartz, and Rahill. Other top 10 finishes for the Knights were Buzak (6th) and Rahill (10th) in the 50 freestyle. Fragale (7th) and Murphy (9th) in the 100 IM. Swartz (9th) in the 50 backstroke. Cordle (4th) and Fragale (7th) in the 50 breaststroke. The 100 freestyle saw Cordle (3rd), Chesko (6th), and Swartz (7th).

Aidan Morgan was the lone double winner for the Knights in all respective age groups with a first-place finish in both the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle. In winning the 50 freestyle in 29.08 seconds, Morgan broke a 10-year-old Neumann League Record that was set in November of 2004.

The 11-and-older division saw the quartet of Sarah Mullane, Sam Murphy, Mark Crocker, and Isabel Treanor finish fourth in the 200 Medley Relay and 5th in the 200 Freestyle Relay. In individual races, Crocker was fifth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 50 butterfly. In the 50 backstroke, Mullane finished sixth and Treanor was ninth overall. Murphy finished fourth in the 50 breaststroke.

The coaching staff and the team coordinators thanked all the DeSales Knights families that assisted in all the meets as well as at championships, saying that without their support, there would be not be a team.

The coaching staff issued the following statement concerning the swim team:
The coaches and swimmers would like to say goodbye to the following 8th graders who competed for the last time in the pool as Knights: Madeline Firkins, Alexandra Fox, Sarah Mullane, Celia Rahill, Victoria Robinson, Harmon Smith and Isabel Treanor. Best wishes to all of you in your future swimming endeavors. As these seven swimmers leave the pool, the Knight swimmers and coaches welcome the next generation of swimmers who completed their first year for DeSales; Ava Achtyl, Ellie Benedict, Matthew Booth, Chris and Sophia Goyette, Richard Keppler, Josie Kerr, Daniel Rahill, Olivia Rongo, William Swartz, Hannah Upshaw, Branden & Cameron Wiepert, and Alexa Zglinicki. Welcome to our DeSales Swim Family!
