TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 42-year-old Willow Street woman was charged Wednesday with drugged driving and leaving the scene of an accident after police say she struck a car at Wine and Liquor Outlet on Transit Road.
The woman, Kristen Saraf Gawrys, 42, 736 Willow St., struck a vehicle parked in the handicapped spot in the parking lot just prior to 5 p.m. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was in her car at the time. She "observed (Gawrys) exit the vehicle and stumble into the Wine and Liquor Outlet. The driver did not stop to exchange insurance information with (the complainant).
When Niagara County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, the woman whose car was struck pointed out Gawrys, who was then exiting the liquor store.
"Gawrys was stumbling and had very slow, slurred speech," according to the report, which added that she "appeared so disoriented that she was having trouble answering very simple questions. She attempted to get back into her vehicle to leave."
Gawrys told patrol that she hadn't had any alcohol but had taken prescription pills about half an hour prior.
She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. She was transported to ENH-Lockport for blood and urine testing before being remanded to the custody of the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $250 police bail. She is scheduled to appear at the Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
