ENP STAFF REPORTS

WRIGHTS CORNERS — An unknown woman attempted to pass of a forged prescription Tuesday at the Rite Aid pharmacy, 3987 Lockport Olcott Road — and nearly got away with it.
The woman, described as being in her late 30s, had dropped the prescription off around 6 p.m. Tuesday. The pharmacy filled the prescription for Lortab, but when the woman came to pick it up, she said the cost was too high and asked to only have $10 worth.
"Upon examining the prescription, (the pharmacist) stated he did not recognize the doctor's signature as being valid. (He) further stated that when he began to examine the prescription, the vehicle, with two female occupants immediately left the drive-through area," according to the NCSO report.
The pharmacist notified Dr. Christopher E. Beney, about the prescription. Dr. Beney confirmed that the prescription was indeed forged, but was on his official NYS prescription pad. He said he had no idea how someone would come in possession of his official prescription forms.
The prescription was made out to a City of Lockport woman with an address on LaGrange Avenue, but patrol could find no such person.
The forged prescription was secured by patrol and turned in to the evidence lockers at NCSO along with a property management form. Patrol notified DTF of the incident and forwarded the case to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for possible further investigation.
