Two city of Lockport men were charged tonight with damaging the Albert Jex memorial bench on Aug. 9.

Garrett Sheehan, 21, 126 Levan Ave.; and Spencer Lupo, 20, 17 Bob-o-Link Lane were each arrested at approximately 9:45 p.m. at their respective places of employment and charged with second-degree criminal mischief — a class D felony — for damaging the memorial bench, as well as second-degree criminal mischief for a separate incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 9.

According to LPD Det. Capt. Brian Wentland, the pair were interviewed "and confessed to their actions in involvment of damage of the bench."

The same morning, there was damage done to the sign for Elite Vapors on Walnut Street, as well as the business' landscaping.

"They ended up admitting to damaging that place, as well," Wentland said.

The pair are being held in city jail until morning when they will be arraigned before Judge Bill Watson.

Wentland said the police department had received a confidential tip to the pair's involvement.
