NEWFANE — A Newfane couple was taken to ENH-Newfane — and then Erie County Medical Center — after they were bitten by a dog on Prospect Street around 6 p.m. Monday.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office report provides three accounts of the attack. The injured male said he was bitten for no reason before the dog turned on the female. The injured female said she was in another room when the male was bitten and when she went to get the dog off her counterpart, the dog then bit her. A witness, meanwhile, said the dog bit the couple after the 23-year-old male half of the couple kicked the dog.

Both injured parties stated they wanted patrol to "shoot the animal" because it attacked for no reason. Both injured parties were transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Newfane, where the Emergency Room doctor said they would be transferred to the Erie County Medical Center for further treatment.

The Emergency Room staff informed patrol that the woman's right arm was severely injured with numerous lacerations and puncture wounds as well as her right ring finger and a laceration to her left arm. The staff stated the male had severe lacerations and puncture wounds to his right arm and left hand.

Patrol completed animal bite paperwork and contacted the SPCA. Patrol advised the SPCA of the incident was told a supervisor needed to be contacted.

No charges have been filed.
