ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
Lockport area gas held at about $3.69, according to AAA East Central’s weekly Fuel Gauge report.
AAA East Central reports the average price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline, based on reports from 21 stations in the Lockport area, was $3.685, down less than a penny from 3.692 last week and 3.83 this time last year.
Regular unleaded gas prices across the state of New York averaged $3.693.
Today’s national average is the lowest on record for this calendar date since 2010 when the national average was $2.68. Today’s price is 21 cents less than the same date in 2011 ($3.65) and 40 cents less than 2012 ($3.83).
While geopolitical developments in Ukraine and Iraq remain front page news, oil markets have marched steadily lower reflecting the assessment that global supplies remain unaffected. This slide in oil prices continued today as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped $3.08 to $92.88 per barrel at the close of formal trading on the NYMEX. Today’s price marks a decline of more than $10 per barrel since the start of July and is the lowest settlement since Jan. 14.
