New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered that flags at state buildings be flown at half staff on Friday in honor of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, who was shot and killed Wednesday night in the line of duty.
Cuomo issued a statement in regards to the fallen officer. It follows below in its entirety.
The tragic death of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson – an eight year veteran of the local police force and member of the Army National Guard who was shot in the line of duty last night – is deeply saddening. I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the loss of this public servant.
Across the state, law enforcement personnel put their lives on the line to protect our communities every day, and today is a heartbreaking reminder of what that service can cost. My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Officer Pierson, including his wife and two young children, and I urge all New Yorkers to pause and remember the dedication of the brave men and women who keep our state safe.
