ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The Erie Canal vignette — the wooden cutout with two canawlers next to Lake Effect Ice Cream on Canal Street — was reported stolen to Lockport Police Saturday afternoon.
A member of the Lockport Locks Heritage Committee had reported to LPD around 1 p.m. Saturday that the $500 vignette was illegally removed from Canal Street. Further investigation, however, showed otherwise.
As it turns out, however, the vignette wasn't stolen, it was loaned to the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo for an exhibit, according to LPD Lt. Sal Licata.
