The 10-day series of craft beer events with will conclude with the first ever Locktoberfest from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 4 on Canal Street. As Buffalo Beer Week’s final event, the festival will showcase craft beer from many of the region’s most popular breweries while celebrating the restored Lockport Locks with a variety of food, arts and entertainment.
“Locktoberfest will be a fitting event to wrap up our annual celebration of the craft beer renaissance in Western New York!” said Willard Brooks, Chairman of Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association. “We are very pleased that Lockport, one of Western New York’s most historic areas, will be showcasing the local craft beer scene that has significantly emerged since our first Buffalo Beer Week in 2010.”
Participating regional craft breweries will include Big Ditch Brewing Co., Barker's Blackbird Cider Works, Community Beer Works, Ellicottville Brewing Co., Hamburg Brewing Co., Old First Ward, Southern Tier Brewing Co. and Woodcock Brothers Brewery of Wilson. The event will also feature beer and wine samplings, as well as commemorative glasses on sale from the participating breweries.
The festival will also include narrated tours of the Lockport Locks Historic District, an expanded Community Market, children’s activities, farm produce and artisan demonstrations, as well as Erie Canal-themed music, art and photography.
“It is very exciting to have such a large-scale event highlight the cultural and historic attractions that make Lockport so unique,” said Mayor Anne McCaffrey. “We are looking forward to having so many local breweries use this opportunity to help us kick off the fall season in Lockport and positively contribute to our local economy and tourism efforts.”
Locktoberfest is organized by the Lockport Locks Heritage District Corp. and Lockport Main Street Inc. in conjunction with the state Canal Corp., I Love NY, New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and TasteNY.
