The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather statement for parts of Western New York including East Niagara.
A strong line of thunderstorms capable of producing strong gusty winds of up to 45 mph is expected, along with heavy rain. Storms are located along a line extending from the Newfane area to Fort Erie, Ontario. The storm front is moving southeast at 35 mph.
The storms have the potential to become severe and produce damaging winds. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is expected with the storm.
The National Weather Service advises people to move inside immediately.
The weather statement is in effect until 10:30 p.m.
