TOWN OF LOCKPORT — The sparks made him easy for police to find.
Police were tipped off to someone driving erratically on Saunders Settlement Road on Saturday. When police caught up with the driver, 27-year-old Christoper J. Tagg, there were sparks coming from underneath his vehicle.
Tagg originally gave police a false name, which earned him a second-degree criminal impersonation charge to go with the DWI and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation charges.
Tagg was placed under arrest and processed at the Lockport barracks where he registered a BAC of 0.14%. Troopers also discovered that Tagg had an outstanding bench warrant in the Town of Lockport.
Further investigation showed the sparks coming from under the vehicle came from a mailbox with a Saunders Settlement Road address still attached. Information had been received that a witness had seen Tagg’s vehicle leave the roadway. An accident investigation was also conducted and it was found that he had left the road way and struck the mailbox which he dragged further down the road.
Tagg is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
