ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
This year’s 4-H Fair Royalty hails from Gasport, Lockport and Newfane.
Chaya Shepard, 18, from Gasport, is an individual 4-H member who is active in photography, poultry, rabbits/cavy, dairy cattle and the dairy goat program. At this year’s fair, she participated in the pie kitchen, volunteered for the chicken barbeque, judged adult exhibits, worked in the milk bar, assisted with the 4-H auction and entered exhibits in the 2014 photo contests.
Chaya is the daughter of Mike and Kathy Shepard and is a member of a three-generation 4-H family. She said that “4-H played a key factor in the decision to follow my passion of photography by giving me the opportunity to enter into digital media contests. 4-H has helped me experience what it is like having positive role models in my life such as my leaders, family and friends that I have met through the 4-H programs.”
Sixteen-year-old Dana Daigler from Lockport is a 12-year member of the Pendleton Church Mice. She is currently active in the poultry, dairy goats, pheasants, sewing/fashion revue, foods and nutrition, arts and crafts, photography and community service projects. At this year’s fair, she was a mannequin model, sold pies, participated in the antique tractor parade, judged adult exhibits, and participated in tractor games. Dana has enjoyed all her 4-H experiences including modeling at the New York State Fair. She is the daughter of Rhonda and Dave Daigler.
Zackary Alt, 16, of Newfane is the son of Mike and Nicole Alt. He is a very active dairy cattle member and began 4-H as a five-year old Dairy Cattle Clover Bud. He has participated as a Teen Ambassador, in the Food and Nutrition program, Pheasant Rearing and Horticulture programs. At the fair, Zack worked the farm tours, made milkshakes in the milk bar, put together barbecue chicken dinners, handed out ribbons at the auction, and helped many fair goers that were stuck in the mud in the parking lots.
Zack is an individual member and member of a three generation 4-H family. Zack states, “One of my best experiences was the 4-H Disney Educational trip. I learned about leadership strategies, the different processes of film making and how the animals in the Animal Kingdom are cared for.”
