Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour stands with members of the Old Timer
Softball committee. The first-ever Old-Timers Softball game will be held
today at Outwater Park.
Years of experience will return to the baseball diamond today at Outwater Park as the first ever Old Timers softball game will be played at 3 p.m.

More than 75 former players from the Lockport Softball Association, Old Timers Fast-Pitch Softball, and the Ontario Softball League are expected to participate in the game in some way.

Players will arrive at the park around 1 p.m. and be given their uniforms. A home run derby will follow, after which the opening ceremony for the softball game will be held. The seven-inning game will commence at 3 p.m.

Food, drink and ice cream will be available for spectators during the game and there will be shirts and hats available for purchase. There will also be a dunk tank set up.

Jack DiMaggio, a member of the committee that organized the game, said it's about more than just one game, "but to entice boys' and girls' softball teams to schedule games on this field through out the rest of the summer and fall."

He said countless volunteer man hours have gone into making today's game a reality.

"I am extending an invitation for all to come out to support this Old Timers Softball game and see for yourself what has been done to make all Lockportians proud of this park," DiMaggio said. "Maybe you will like what you see and encourage our high school and area high school girl's softball teams to play at "our"  Outwater Park Softball diamond."

The old timers had Sheriff Voutour swinging at air during a recent practice and exhibition.
