Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey said via email this evening that the water issues Saturday at Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport are isolated to the hospital.
The water issue at the hospital is not a city water issue - it is specific only to the hospital. Our Water Filtration Plant on Summit Street treats city water 24 hours a day. The water leaving the plant is tested hourly for chlorine and turbidity. In addition, there are 10 distribution sample sites throughout the city where our water department staff test the water for chlorine, turbidity and bacti. The Chief Operator of the Water Filtration Plant, Pete Degnan, has confirmed to me that all of our tests are in the normal range and city water continues to be completely safe.ENH-Lockport officials said Saturday afternoon that the water within the hospital was being chlorinated in response to a potential Legionella case. The process was expected to take a few hours.
"The public should be assured that there is no outbreak of Legionella and that the Hospital is acting expeditiously to assure the highest levels of water purity," according to an ENH press release.
