ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
An early-morning standoff on Genesee Street Saturday ended with charges for a 35-year-old man.
Robert L. Smith Jr., 255 Genesee St., Apt. 3, was charged with obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child following the standoff with police on Genesee Street early Saturday morning.
According to Smith's arrest report, he punched a woman in the mouth and told her "everyone in this house is going to die tonight, starting with you." He was looking at a shotgun while he said it. He then grabbed the woman by the neck and began to squeeze. The woman's daughter pushed the man off of her then the woman struck Smith with a picture frame and fled, but her children were still in the residence with Smith.
LPD and Niagara County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene and found Smith yelling out of a second floor window at patrol that he was not leaving the residence.
After an hour and a half, Smith exited the residence and was taken into custody.
