TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A stove fire on Lincoln Place Friday night was extinguished by a quick-thinking neighbor who suffocated the fire with table salt.
According to a report filed with the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, a resident of 6555 Lincoln Place had been cooking french fries on the stove and left them unattended while playing a video game. He was alerted by the smoke detector around 7:30 p.m. He grabbed the frying pan and began taking it outside, while a neighbor, who had heard the smoke alarm, came into the apartment and extinguished the flames.
The neighbor received a minor burn on her hand. All parties were vacated from the building. South Lockport fire requested NYSEG to turn off the power to the apartment and secured the residence until the Town of Lockport building inspector responded to the scene.
