BARKER — Olivia Denny, a graduate of Barker Jr./Sr. High School was presented with the 2014 Edward A. Schmidt Student of Integrity Award by the Better Business Bureau serving Upstate New York.
Denny is one of the eight winners selected from the many applications received, earning $1,750 for second place in the Buffalo region. She was the 2014 valedictorian for Barker High School and will be attending the University of Rochester to study Biochemistry. She also plans on attending pharmacy school at the University at Buffalo. She is the daughter of Mel and Meg Denny of Barker.
Students were required to submit an essay about overcoming an ethical business dilemma and include letters of recommendation with their post-secondary education plans. Winners have expressed receiving BBBs Student of Integrity Award is an honor of distinction and pride since the recognition is earned from their own commitment to living an ethical life.
The scholarship was named after Ed Schmidt, a former BBB board director. Mr. Schmidt believed in gaining higher education and honesty above all else. Students are nominated by hundreds of high school administrators across Upstate New York and selected for their demonstration of high ethical standards and honest behavior.
