ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The Lockport Police Department responded in full force to a call of "shots fired" in the area of Grand and Allen streets around 10:50 p.m. Friday. But when they got there, they learned it was something much less serious.
According to police officials, there was a verbal altercation in the area at the time, which was followed by someone slamming a door. It would appear that the door slamming sounded like a possible gunshot to whoever called LPD at the time.
Police Chief Larry Eggert said Wednesday morning that the department would rather people reported things that turn out not to be gunfire than not report things and have it turn out to have been something LPD should have responded to.
That was while Eggert and LPD investigators were at a scene of an early-morning shooting on 106 Gooding Street. No one had reported the shots fired at the time. Instead they called police in the morning.
The Gooding Street shooting was right around the block of a shooting that had taken place the prior night at Grand and Church streets. In both instances, a home was shot, but there were no injuries.
Friday night's false alarm was located directly between the two shootings that occurred early Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
