TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 21-year-old Lockport man was charged Monday night with disorderly conduct after hurling an obscenity at a Niagara County Sheriff's deputy at a South Transit Road gas station.

According to the arrest report, the deputy was filling his patrol car with gas when he heard a vulgar statement proclaimed at police from the south side of the gas station twice. The report says that the statement was made "in front of several patrons of the gas station who appeared to be disturbed by the comments."

Patrol approached a male, later identified as Frederick W. Lewis II, 221 Green St., and asked him who yelled the obscenity. Lewis told patrol it was him. "I asked Lewis why he would yell that. Lewis replied 'Why wouldn't I?' the report said.

A warrant check of Lewis showed negative results and NCSO left the gas station to attend to another call.

Around 3:38 p.m. Tuesday, patrol arrived at Lewis' home and took him into custody for the incident. He was transported to Niagara County Jail and held on $100 bail. He was to appear in Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.

  1. He was arrested for something he said? Isn't that illegal?
