news@eastniagarapost.com
The History Center of Niagara will hold its fourth annual Gala Dinner and Auction from 6 - 9 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Erie Canal Discovery Center. Guests will enjoy a summer evening dining alfresco in historic downtown Lockport within sight of the Erie Canal.
Guests will enjoy delicious cuisine with table seating, catered by the Shamus Restaurant, including Teriyaki chicken satay; shrimp wrapped with bacon; roast beef, turkey and mozzarella crostinis; and vegetable pizza.
A selection of wines from Schulze Vineyards & Winery and craft beer from Woodcock Brothers Brewing Company will accompany the food. And after the meal, guests will enjoy dessert provided by Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Café, Barker Chocolate Box, Village Bake Shoppe, and scoops of ice cream from Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream. The Buffalo jazz ensemble Pro Bono will entertain throughout the evening.
Live and silent auctions will add to the excitement, offering a great assortment of paintings by regional artists, plus several spectacular overnight stays at hotels such as Salvatore’s Grand Hotel and choice of one of Niagara’s Finest inns in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.; a half-day of sport fishing with Wet Net Charters; a sail on the “Spirit of Buffalo” with dinner for two at Pearl Street Grill; and many dining packages.
Niagara County Sheriff Jim Vontour will return as the event's very capable and entertaining auctioneer.
For over 90 years, the History Center of Niagara has preserved and protected the history of Niagara County and the Erie Canal. Discovery Gala and Auction proceeds will be used to develop and expand the many adult and children’s education programs conducted during the year.
Gala attendees are welcome to enjoy the latest exhibit of art and artifacts at the Penney Gallery, which tell the story of the life of local philanthropist and collector Charles Rand Penney.
Tickets for the Discovery Center Gala and Auction are $50. For tickets and information, call the Niagara History Center at 434-7433 or Erie Canal Discovery Center at 439-0431.
