ENP STAFF REPORTS

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies briefly detained a man Wednesday morning over a reported stolen $20, then let him go due to lack of evidence.

A Lincoln Place woman told patrol around 6 a.m. Wednesday that a man had snatched $20 from her and ran inside one of the apartments nearby. She said the unknown black male walked up to her while she was in the parking lot and without using any force snatched a $20 dollar bill from her hand and then went back inside the apartments. She described the male as skinny, approximately six feet tall, with long dreadlocks and 150 pounds. She thought he had a scruff of facial hair along his jaw line but could give any other descriptive details about the male, except that she has seen the male at Kenyon's on other occasions.

While patrol was gathering this information a black male who somewhat matched the description came walking out of the apartments wearing an orange t-shirt and smoking a cigarette, and the complainant stated that he was the male who took her money. Patrol detained the male by handcuffing him and placing him in the backseat of the patrol car.

Another deputy then spoke with a possible witness who stated that herself, the complainant, the detained party and her brother had driven up to 7-Eleven in the complainant's car and she was complaining all night about how she was missing $20. The witness further stated once they left 7-Eleven, the complainant returned to Lincoln Place where the witness fell asleep in the backseat and when she awoke she observed Niagara County Sheriff's deputies interviewing the complainant.

Patrol spoke with the detained man further and he denied knowing and being in complainant's car. When patrol searched him, no money was found on him and he stated that he just woke up.

It was decided that without any further information to corroborate the possible larceny, the man was released and the investigation is on going.
