TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A traffic stop led to open container and possession of marijuana charges for a Sanborn man and a Newfane woman.
Casey L. Brown, 31, 3076 Schenk Road, and Grace M. Platt, 24, 7257 Lockport-Olcott Road, Newfane, were both charged with drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana. Brown was also charged with driving on the shoulder of the road.
According to the report filed by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Brown was driving a vehicle north on Lake Avenue when patrol saw it swerve onto the shoulder of the roadway twice. After pulling him over, patrol could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Platt told patrol that she had a small amount of marijuana in her purse, along with an open bottle of wine. Another small amount of suspected marijuana was found in the driver side door panel.
Brown and Platt were both issued appearance tickets for Town of Lockport Court on June 3. The suspected marihuana was placed into a property locker in order to be sent to the Niagara County Forensic Laboratory for confirmation.
