ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
NEWFANE — A 21-year-old Ridge Road man was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana after a traffic stop Sunday.
Deputies say that Micheal F. Bermal Jr., 6024 Ridge Road, swerved into a different lane in close proximity of another vehicle without using a turn signal while traveling southbound on Lockport-Olcott Road.
While speaking to Bermal, patrol said they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He told patrol that he smoked marijuana earlier in the day, but was not in possession of any. He later confessed that there is a small amount of marijuana inside the driver side door panel, which patrol found and secured it into an evidence bag. When searching Bermel, patrol located another clear plastic bag containing more marijuana, according to the report NSCO filed.
Patrol issued Bermel an appearance ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana and also a traffic ticket for changing lanes unsafely. He was to be in Town of Newfane Court on Wednesday. The suspected marijuana was placed into an NCSO evidence locker in order to be sent to the Niagara County Forensic Laboratory for confirmation.
East Niagara Post now publishes garage and yard sales.
