RAPIDS — A Rapids Road woman returned home Friday afternoon to find that someone had broken into her home and stolen nearly $1,500 worth of cash and merchandise.
The woman told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that when she arrived home around 4 p.m., she immediately noticed that the house was cold. She then noticed that a window in the kitchen was open and the screen was missing.
After leaving the residence to call 911, the complainant accompanied patrol to do an inventory of the house. She found that missing items included a laptop, iPod, iPod Home Station, and $300 cash were missing. It also appeared that a jewelry box had been gone through, but the woman doesn't believe any jewelry was taken. The complainant told patrol that there had been a large gift bag with gifts in it on the office floor. The gifts were still there, but the bag was missing. In all, the value of the missing items totaled $1,450.
The case was referred to CIB for further investigation.
