BARKER — With more than 82 percent of voters approving, the Barker Central School District $18,543,787 budget was approved tonight.

One-hundred-fifty-seven voters said yes to the proposed spending plan, while 34 said no.

The budget is a decrease of 2.5 percent from the current year, but the tax levy will increase by $3.99 million, up 2 percent, meaning property owners will see a tax rate of $16.46 per $1,000 assessed property value in Somerset, up 1.98 percent; $16.46 per $1,000 assessed property value in Hartland, up 1.98 percent; and $17.89 per $1,000 assessed property value in Newfane, up 1.94 percent.

With two candidates to choose from and two seats up for election, Louis Mead and John Sweeney will both have seats. Sweeney received 157 votes, while Mead got 146.
